Aesthetics and Culture is an interdisciplinary study of art and culture in modern society. We analyse all art forms and their cultural role in the context of contemporary society. Our field of study comprises both the aesthetics of individual art forms and the interaction between them through language, visuality, sound and performance. Culture is seen in a theoretical and analytical perspective and as a concrete institutional and political process. Therefore the general and increasing importance of aesthetic values in contemporary culture constitutes a significant focal point. Consequently, we are constantly trying to explore methods and analytical strategies in our teaching and didactics, with the aim of improving our understanding of aesthetic and cultural phenomena in the society we live in.

The Section for Aesthetics and Culture offers an undergraduate and a graduate program together with a supplementary program.
